INTAKE OF SALTPETER CAUSES KIDNEY FAILURE

INTAKE OF SALTPETER CAUSES KIDNEY FAILURE
The consistent consumption of saltpeter in everyday cooking can lead to kidney failure and damaging of liver in the long run.

 Did you know that? Hmm, let's go talk to our Doctor
 Our Doctor Joseph Somuah of ST Joe’s hospital,  in an interview with the soobolo team briefed us about the effects of consuming too much saltpetre( locally know in Ghana as kiewu) that is added to foods.

Let me give you a clue about kiewu; Mamma says that waakye is full of kiewu...

Now from time immemorial the use of saltpeter was used by African women in the kitchen, serving as food softeners eg okra, beans and meats. Dr. Joe explained that the excessive use of this natural chemical by food venders etc can harm the human immune system.
We asked Doc why these food tenders use this chemical daily in various dishes.
He explained that if makes cooking faster as the chemical softens food

"Doc told us that it will only result in kidney failure and liver damage”

Doc advises the public;
The body reacts to it this natural chemical, so consuming so much may result in symptoms like vomiting, stomach ache and stomach upset. He stressed that food hawkers and homes that use kiewu in cooking must take this health precaution seriously.
