Organised Labour demo:

Police band entertains demonstrators in E/R

Organised Labour demonstrators in Eastern Region, Wednesday, had the shock of their lives when the Police band, out of the blue, stormed the premises they have gathered ahead of their protest march, to give them morale boost with songs from renowned Ghanaian musicians.
Regional Police Commander, ACP Angwubutoge Awuni, however cautioned that although the men and women in black uniform identified itself with the concerns of workers, they will be left with no option than to bring them to order when protesters go haywire.
“I will urge you to impress upon your people to do what will not drag us into confrontation. I wouldn’t like our action to destroy the beauty of what you are doing…we are all workers, let me be very frank with you, if it goes well it goes well for me but I cannot go out there and demonstrate”.
Workers across the country are demonstrating over government’s refusal to withdraw the newly introduced Energy Sector Levy. The workers say the move by the Mahama-led administration is insensitive.
Government however insists the levy is needed to fix the challenges in the energy sector.
