Power outages will be over in March – ECG

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana Robert Gyamena has said the pockets of power outages being experienced in the country will be over by the end of the first quarter of the year.

According to him, the development is as a result of the inability of the power distributor to measure the actual demand of its customers due to the load shedding the country was undergoing.

Although energy officials say the power crisis which has bedeviled the country for the last three years has substantially improved, power consumers still complain of intermittent power outages.

Speaking to Accra-based Joy FM on the development, Mr. Gyamena said the ECG has acquired enough transformers to cease the outages.

“...We are mindful of ensuring that we have system reliability in all areas of operation. Because of the load shedding we were unable to measure the demand of customers ...but now dumsor (load shedding) is not coming back. We have enough transformers in our system; over 2000 transformers.

“We believe that within the first quarter we should be able to strengthen our network to make the system withstand the shortfalls,” he stated.
